HOCKEYVectis Ladies II 2, Southampton V 2
ONLY nine players travelled to South-ampton to try to make amends for their 3-2 defeat from the last meeting.
Southampton failed to capitalise on having two extra players to start with and only managed to get their first goal from a short corner helped in by a deflection. The Southampton team were then awarded and converted another short corner.
Vectis rallied and started to pass the ball around and from a sideline hit from Georgia Dye found Anna Scovell, who flicked the ball into the goal at an acute angle hitting the side net inside the goal. Going into the second half one goal down spurred the young team to attack.
A move started by Abi Fishburn led to Saffron Hart levelling the tie. Southampton kept the pressure on but hard-working defence and great saves from player of the match Rohana Clarke kept the mainland side at bay as the final whistle blew on a deserved draw.
Vectis face Haslemere III at Carisbrooke tomorrow (Saturday). Anyone interested in joining the club can call Helen on 07764159199.
Vectis: Barton, Clarke, Cooke, Dye, Edney, Fishburn, Hart, Rimmer, Scovell.
