ICE HOCKEYICE hockey starlet Sophie Herbert has been selected for the Great Britain squad again — but this time around she has another responsibility.
Ryde High School student Sophie, 16, has been chosen for the GB under-18s women’s squad, which this weekend is taking part in the Four Nations Tournament in Budapest, Hungary.
But she has also been given the honour of being made assistant captain.
In ice hockey, every team has a captain and two assistants, so there is a team leader on the ice at all times. The captain and assistant captain are the only players to be permitted to negotiate with officials and always lead by example with their play.
Sophie and her parents, Neil and Sue, flew out to Hungary on Thursday for the three-day tournament, which will see Great Britain pit their skills against the hosts as well as Belgium and Slovakia.
