ICE HOCKEY
Wightlink Raiders 10, Streatham Redskins 2
RAIDERS’ great form continued at Ryde Arena last weekend as they hit double figures against Streatham.
The game started in Streatham’s favour with an early goal but Raiders responded brilliantly, Andrew Robinson equalising soon after.
The following three minutes saw the Island side hit the back of the net another three times, through two from captain Danny Hughes — one from a penalty shot — and Stewart Tait.
The second period saw more one-way traffic, with Hughes netting another two goals and Cornish adding to the tally.
Streatham scored early in the third period but this was a mere consolation, as Hughes capped a man of the match-winning performance, by scoring his fifth, and the Raiders’ tenth, goal. Robinson and James Udell had earlier also scored.
Haringey Greyhounds 2, Wightlink Raiders 8
Hughes continued his scintillating form away to Haringey as Raiders cruised to an 8-2 win on Sunday, in their most convincing weekend of hockey all season.
Among the goalscorers were Hughes, with a hat-trick, Robinson and Damon Larter, who was man of the match.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is likely to be a cracking match between the Raiders and league leaders Invicta Dynamos, who will take the title if they win. Face off at Ryde Arena is at 6pm.
