Aidan Doughty.
ICE HOCKEYICE hockey hot-shot Aidan Doughty has made the final South West England squad after a period of intense training.
Aidan, 14, a Sandown High School pupil, found out last week he was one of the chosen few to make the final cut.
The team is now preparing for an inter-conference tournament, in Hull, in May, from which the under-15s England squad is likely to be chosen.
Aidan is the IW Junior Ice Hockey Club’s top scorer at under-14s and under-16s level.
He said: "I’m really pleased at making the team and I’m glad all the hard work has paid off. This is the first rung of the ladder for me and with more hard work, I hope to progress even further."
His father, Geoff, said: "I’m very proud of what he has achieved. He, along with all the other children at the club, work very hard and dedicate so much time and effort to their training. It is nice for an Island-trained player to be recognised as one of the best in the region."
Aidan is in need of sponsorship to help with his travel costs and equipment and anyone wishing to help can call Geoff on 07515 346506.
