THE closure of Ryde Arena has not stopped a ten-year-old ice hockey player from achieving his goal.
Sebastian Darlaston-Jones, a pupil at Holy Cross Primary School, East Cowes, has been selected for the under-11s South West England Conference junior ice hockey team, following a series of trials last year.
Seb’s first match for the team will be in Scotland in April, before he takes part in a tournament in Sheffield in May.
The Junior Raiders player took up the sport less than three years ago having been drawn to it during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
His dad, Spencer, said: "He lives and breathes ice hockey, it’s his passion.
"He had figure skating lessons and then we joined the Junior Raiders.
"We’re very proud of him, he works very hard."
