Ice hockey stars hit Slough for ten

ICE HOCKEY EVEN without several of their top names, including player-coach Jeremy Cornish and netminder Matt Colclough, Wightlink Raiders still posted a comfortable victory over Slough Jets in the NIHL Cup on Sunday.

The Islanders travelled without Cornish, Colclough, captain Damon Larter, Richard Facey and Sam Waller, but still managed to dominate throughout.

Two minutes in, they took the lead through Craig Tribe before a quick-fire double from Joe Denness gave the Islanders a good lead. Man of the match Jiri Hanzal netted two minutes before the break and, after a double strike from Slough, they restored their three-goal cushion when Steve Gossett scored.

Aidan Doughty then made it six before another two from Denness completed the second period scoring.

Goals from Gossett and a fifth goal from Denness, took Raiders to double figures.

This weekend, the Raiders have a weekend off, but will return to action before Christmas with a derby clash with Solent and Gosport Devils on December 22, before travelling to Chelmsford Chieftains for a crucial league match the next day.
