ICE HOCKEYWIGHTLINK Raiders have completed their squad, three months ahead of the new season.
The final piece of their puzzle was filled on Tuesday, when player-coach Jeremy Cornish announced the capture of Canadian import forward Jason Gorrie for the 2010-11 campaign.
Gorrie, 24, is signed from US side Evansville Icemen, which last season won its league play-off title. His eight goals and six assists in nine play-off matches made him the team’s best post-season player.
Cornish said: "We need an import who can score and that’s what Jason will be expected to do. Jason is very excited about starting his pro career with the Wightlink Raiders and we are excited to have him."
Gorrie’s signing was the last of several player announcements made in quick succession last week.
Joining the ranks is forward Josh Florey, 18, from Basingstoke Buffalo, who scored 26 points in 15 games for the side last season.
Returning to the fold is Island-trained defenceman James Francis, 20, who has been playing for Space Coast Hurricanes in Florida for two seasons.
Fans will be delighted to hear of the return of veteran defenceman Steve Gannaway, netminder Matt Colclough, feisty forward Steve Gossett, Kieran Annis, Kevin Tanner and the hard-working Andy Robinson.
