Barnet FC manager John Still has dramatically stood down from his position as first team coach.

In what the club described as an amicable agreement, Still will no longer act as first team coach or director of football. He will remain as director of the club.

The resignation follows outspoken comments in this week's Times Sport in which he said that he never wanted to be manager after former boss Tony Cottee quit in March. His departure, always a long-term plan, is understood to have been hastened by these comments after Tuesday's 3-0 home defeat against Farnborough Town.

Barnet FC have drawn up a shortlist of successors as first team coach and plan to make an announcement on Monday.

One of the names is one of the top coaches in football, said club spokesman Dennis Signy. Another is a manager in the Nationwide Conference, the other is a lesser known figure from the world of football.

The club had hoped to groom coach Ian Culverhouse as their next manager but those plans were upset with Culverhouses recent departure to Leyton Orient.

In the interim period former Bees star Paul Wilson will take over as caretaker manager.

Still had a mixed first spell in charge of the Bees in which they twice reached the Division Three play-offs. He was asked to take over first team affairs again after Cottee left but he couldnt halt the club's slide down Division Three and they were relegated to the Conference in May.

This seasons campaign started well, but since Christmas the club has been in free-fall.
