Alex Barker scored twice on Saturday.
Wightlink Raiders 6, Bracknell Hornets 4
WIGHTLINK Raiders made life tough for themselves on Saturday night, labouring to a win over Bracknell Hornets at Ryde Arena.
After a great start, with Steve Osman netting after just 47 seconds, it looked as though Raiders would go on a scoring rampage. But a second-period surge from the mainlanders made the game far tighter than it should have been.
Bracknell equalised after two minutes, but Raiders regained their lead in the 15th minute, with another goal for Osman, and then extended it seconds before the end of the period from Ben Lock.
However, two goals within three minutes from Ryan Webb made it 3-3, and although Alex Parker netted on the powerplay at 27.43, Bracknell came back again second later to level the game once more.
It took a brilliant short-handed goal from Matt Vizzari just 90 seconds from the end of the second session to ease the nerves, and another Barker goal, ten minutes from the end of the game, sealed the points.
Invicta Dynamos 7, Wightlink Raiders 3
On Sunday night, Raiders made a really bright start against Invicta on their own ice, but ran out of steam as Invicta maintained their home superiority.
Vizzari gave Raiders the lead in the fourth minute of the game, but two goals within a minute gave Invicta the lead.
The Raiders’ import was once again on hand to save his side, levelling in the 25th minute, before a powerplay goal from player-coach Jeremy Cornish made it 3-2.
But that was to be the last of the Raiders’ scoring, as two goals from Anthony Leone turned things around, before third-period goals Marek Nahlik, Callum Fowler and Danny Hammond sealed the Dynamos win.
Raiders start the first of seven straight away games this weekend, travelling to Streatham tomorrow (Saturday) and MK Thunder on Sunday.
