WIGHTLINK Raiders suffered a blip in form on Saturday, drawing with a resurgent Streatham Redskins.

Having beaten them 13-5 on home ice, Raiders should have gone into the game confident but instead found themselves battling against a Streatham side determined to give their fans the perfect early Christmas present.

The Londoners took the lead two minutes before the end of the first period through import Sean Scarbrough, but Raiders responded almost immediately from the restart, when captain Damon Larter found Alex Barker to score.

Raiders then took the lead when Richard Facey set up Matt Vizzari, but it did not last long as Streatham came back strongly and equalised five minutes before the break.

In the third period, Raiders regained the lead when Richard Nembhard set up Facey for a third goal, but again, Streatham powered back with a third equaliser.

Craig Tribe then set up Steven Osman for the Raiders’ fourth goal and, true to form, Streatham levelled and held on for the point for the remaining 12 minutes.

Man of the match was Ben Lock.

Milton Keynes Thunder 1, Wightlink Raiders 3

Goalkeeper Denis Bell prevented the Raiders from posting a mammoth score on Sunday, but still let in three goals to allow the Islanders to take two more league points.

Bell saved 76 out of 79 shots in a brilliant display of netminding, but could not prevent the three second-period goals that put Raiders clear.

After a goalless first period, Raiders finally made the breakthrough when Baker netted from Nick Compton and Tribe.

Four minutes later, Osman netted an unassisted effort to make it 2-0, before player-coach Jeremy Cornish got in on the act with a couple of minutes of the period to spare.

Milton Keynes upped their game in the final period, posting 17 shots on Matt Colclough, and finally got off the mark two minutes from time, but it was not enough.

This weekend Raiders have two more away league matches. Tomorrow (Saturday), they face the London Raiders for the first time, before going to Solent and Gosport Devils on Sunday.
