Raiders go pink

ICE HOCKEYWIGHTLINK Raiders donned a pink kit on Saturday night to raise £2,000 for an Island charity.

In a one-off event, the Raiders wore the bright strip for the Applegate Breast Cancer Unit at St Mary’s Hospital, in a vital top-of-the-table clash against namesakes Romford Raiders.

All the shirts were auctioned off, while there were bucket collections around the rink, a raffle, and an auction for some custom-made pink gloves, worn during the match by Raiders’ player-coach Jeremy Cornish, and a pink hockey stick.

And alongside a great night of fundraising, the Raiders also beat their Essex rivals 5-4, to edge them nearer to a shot at the National Ice Hockey League Division 1 South title.
