Jim, who is 53 years old and works as a self-employed motor mechanic, formerly lived in Petts Wood before moving to Sidcup recently and dices with death every time he gets aboard his high-powered machine.

Eighteen months ago, when riding a Yamaha, Jim had an 80mph crash at the Lydden Hill circuit near Dover, sustaining three broken ribs, a broken finger, and bruising from head to toe after being catapulted 30 feet into the air. He still suffers from the effects of a damaged ankle.

Jim said: "I landed in the middle of the track and dozens of riders, all driving at high speed, were trying to swerve their machines around my body. In doing so, several crashed themselves and broke bones in the process."

But Jim, like other superbike riders, is made of stern and, perhaps, foolish stuff! This season's 20-round series started at Lydden Hill on March 4 and, on a day when conditions were not conducive to high-speed racing, there were numerous crashes. Jim who was riding an untested Ducati, was one of them, breaking his collarbone.

Incredibly, Jim confounded his doctors by undergoing extensive laser treatment and returned to race-action at Snetteron on April Fool's Day!

Jim said: "I'd had just two practice sessions since the crash and I was just happy to drive steadily. So, after finishing in mid-division in race one, I was very happy with my sixth position in the second race."

At Brands Hatch this weekend, Jim returns to what he says is his "favourite" track at Brands Hatch for round three of the high-powered series. If you are there, watch out for his machine sporting number 69.

Jim is also seeking some more sponsorship deals. Call him on 020 8302 5663 if you would like to get on board.
