LIGHTNING’S season ended on a high, as they beat Lee Valley at Ryde Arena.

Rory Julian opened the scoring for the IW, assisted by Brandon Wright, before Alex Trendall doubled their lead, with a breakaway effort.

Lee Valley narrowed the gap early in the second but Trendall netted again to restore the two-goal lead, before Julian and Wright bagged their second for a 5-1 lead.

Lee Valley scored a consolation towards the end of the match but Lightning were comfortable winners.

Man of the match was Andrew McCloskey and spirit of the match was Jordan Jacobs.

• Lightning are looking for new players aged 12 to 13 to join the team. If you can skate and would like to play, visit Ryde Arena any Thursday from 6pm for more information.

Under-16s: IW Thunder 5, Gosport 2

Thunder embarked on their final three games of the season, all away, at Gosport, and emerged victorious.

Aidan Doughty put the Islanders ahead in the first minute and four minutes later it was 2-0, Doughty netting again.

Gosport narrowed the gap after ten minutes but Thunder pulled away again early in the second, Doughty completing his hat-trick.

However, resilient Gosport scored again to make it 3-2 and put the game on a knife-edge.

Man of the match Luke Bontoft put Thunder back in the driving seat before his second goal in the third period made the game safe.

Goalkeeper Elliott Powell, who came on midway through the match, was spirit of the game.
