ICE HOCKEYCardiff ENL Devils 9, Wightlink Raiders 4
RAIDERS failed to hit the back of the net until the third period in this match, by which time hosts Cardiff had a commanding lead.
In what proved to be a feisty and entertaining match, the game began with a series of penalties before Cardiff opened their account in the tenth minute, through Steven Fisher. Two further goals came in the first period, with a fourth early in the second.
Raiders began their comeback by exerting their physical presence on the game with two scraps, the first between Stewart Tait and Cardiff captain David James and the second between Andrew Robinson and Dixon.
But once the game resumed for the third period, Cardiff were back in the business of scoring, and made it 5-0 just a minute after the restart.
Cardiff went on to score four more in the final session, although this was matched by the Raiders, goals coming from Tait, with a hat-trick, and player-coach Jeremy Cornish, whose goal at 55.22 was the last of the night.
However, by then the damage was done and the Raiders now have to regroup for tomorrow night’s home game against Haringey. Face off at Ryde Arena is at 6pm.
