An application for permission to build an ornate Hindu temple in Edgware has been thrown out by Harrow Councillors who believed the building would be overbearing.

The Divine House sect wanted to build the temple with three domes and a tower on land at the junction of Edgware High Street and Spring Villa Road.

But at a planning committee meeting on Wednesday last week, officials predicted it would generate traffic chaos and detract from the Change of Heart pub next door.

Agents acting for the sect argued that the temple would add character to the area and would not be immediately apparent from the High Street.
