Amy Church, left, with the Isle of Man's Marit Zahkla and bronze medallist Annie Henriksson, of Gotland.
TWO more medals came from the athletics track yesterday (Wednesday), as Tom Wade doubled his tally with a bronze, and Amy Church earned a confidence-boosting silver.
Wade, who already has 3,000m steeplechase gold to his name, was nowhere near the top two runners, Lee Merrien, of Guernsey, and Aland's Janne Holmen, but ran a steady and competent race to take bronze comfortably, in a time of 15.27.93.
Meanwhile, in the field, Church — who only returned to full training a few months ago — took women's hammer silver with a season's best throw of 46.81m, two metres off the leading throw of 48.89.
There was agony for Matt Barton, however, when the long jumper was pushed into fourth place in the final round by Rhodes' Georgios Kontos, who leaped two centimetres further for bronze.
In swimming, Sam Tinson-Wood smashed the previous IW best-ever time for 100m freestyle by more than a second.
But Tinson-Wood's fantastic 52.91 was only enough for fifth in a high-quality final.
The IW tennis team's Island Games is over after all men's, ladies' and mixed doubles pairings failed to make it past the second round of the competition.
And in the badminton, only the mixed doubles remains for the IW after a good show in a strong singles' tournament.
The golf is at the halfway stage and the IW are in a good position, with the women currently lying third overall and the men also holding their own in the leading pack. Individually, Sophie Beardsall is the top-placed golfer, lying second in the ladies' tournament.
Tomorrow the sailing resumes with the IW in an excellent position both in team and individual events, while the individual table tennis competition begins.
Matt Reed is also aiming for a medal position in the shooting competition, despite he and fellow pistol shooter Anthony Elgar having to borrow guns for the competition from Jersey, due to UK handgun laws.
