JOE Wade and Mikael Popov added to the IW's Island Games medal tally yesterday (Tuesday), earning a silver and a bronze respectively.

At Aland's athletics track, Wade came second behind Guernsey's Tom Druce in a thrilling 800m final, with a personal best time of 1.52.52.

And at the swimming pool, Popov increased his own medal haul by bagging bronze in the 50m breaststroke final, having qualified in the fastest time.

Back at the track Matt Barton and Leon Phillips easily qualified for the long jump final, jumping the qualifying distance in the second round.

The IW women's football team are in a great position in their group having beaten the Western Islands 1-0, and with one game to go have an excellent chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition.

However, the men's team crashed out after a 4-1 defeat to Jersey at Hammarvallen.

The IW sailors continue to improve their position after a brilliant day in the harbour at Mariehamn. The team lie second overall, with Richard Talbot second in the laser radial rig.

And the IW's two ladies' doubles teams have progressed to the second round of the competition after wins over pairs from Menorca and Jersey.

IW's table tennis stars finished an impressive fifth in the team competition while the men's golfers lie fifth after the first round. Chris Reed is the highest-placed IW golfer, in joint eighth.
