AFTER a week of intense sporting action the 4,000 athletes of the NatWest Island Games had the chance to let their hair down on Friday night, as the closing ceremony sparked party celebrations.

Following a parade through Cowes, which ended at Cowes Yacht Haven, a short formal ceremony closing the games, and handing the flag of the International Island Games Association flag to the next hosts, Bermuda, the athletes partied long into the night.

They were treated to a performance of specially-composed anthem, Ray of Light, by the choir of Nodehill Middle School, and the band Cornerstone also performed popular rock anthems and party tunes.

• More online picture galleries from the games coming soon.

• Full coverage from the NatWest Island Games in the Friday, July 8, County Press.
