HILPERTON pilot Paula Walker hopes to have laid down a marker for the remainder of the FIBT Bobsleigh World Cup season after a superb sixth place in her opening outing of the season.
Great Britain 1 driver Walker, who lives with men’s number one John Jackson in Paxcroft Mead, finished sixth in the first round of the series at Lake Placid in the United States with brakewoman Gillian Cooke.
The duo go again in the second round at Utah’s Park City this weekend.
Walker told the Wiltshire Times: “We were delighted to open the season with a sixth place finish.
“It hopefully will cement the foundations of a great pre-Olympic season.
“I came into this season with aims of consistent top eights and trying to get among the top five and to only be 0.14 of a sec off silver at a track like Lake Placid is brilliant.
“Obviously every track is different so the outcome may slightly change but I would be over the moon if we can stay among the top six.’’ Jackson finished a fine 10th in the four-man event at Lake Placid and was 23rd in the two-man version.
