Opportunities for youngsters to play cricket will increase following the forming of the Greenwich Cricket District Development Group.

It is a partnership between the major clubs in the borough, who run youth sections, the sports development department of Greenwich Council, primary and secondary schools and the Kent Cricket Board.

The group will run a variety of activities including coaching courses at local sports centres and cricket clubs, as well as training and matches for the Greenwich district teams at under-10 to 14 age groups, while a major new initiative will be the forming of a new girls/womens team with the Old Colfeians Club.

The first course for girls, which is free for those aged 10-15, will take place during half-term at Eaglesfield School, on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 19 and 20, from 10am to 3pm. There is also a beginners' course for eight to 11 year-old boys and girls at

Eaglesfield school on Tuesday evenings at 4.30pm, starting on February 26 to March 26 at cost £22 per head.

If you would like to sign up, or find out more about either of these courses, then call Andy Pye on 0208 319 0214 or email: andy@andypye.com
