ISLANDERS REUNITEDFrom John Matthew, Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne. e-mail: jandjmatthews@btinternet.com

I AM carrying out resesarch for a book on the history of Stanley Miller Ltd, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I have a copy of an obituary the CP ran on November 23, 1968, for Mr William Eskdale Fishburn, who was a director of the company from 1919 until he retired in or around 1952/1955.

I am trying to trace any surviving relatives to see if I can trace the company back to its roots as William was the grandson of the company’s founder, Joseph Fishburn, in Sunderland, in 1853.

Your original article, plus other information regarding William which I have, (I worked for Stanley Miller for 19 years),  explains that he was awarded the OBE in 1949 for his work with the National Concilliation Panel and was also national vice-president of the National Federation of Building Trades Employers.

Your article mentioned that he had two daughters, one of which was a Mrs D. Smith, who returned back from Australia to live in Luccombe Farm in Ventnor. William died at his home in Springfield, Streep, near Petersfield, in Hampshire.
