Members of Cowes Concert Band in their new uniforms ahead of the celebratory concert at St Mary’s Church, Cowes.
MUSICA PERFORMANCE to celebrate the arrival of Cowes Concert Band’s new uniforms will include a new composition, written to mark the big event.
The band’s musical director, Andy Norman, has made the occasion even more special by writing a new piece of music for the concert, entitled Celebration.
The brass band will play the piece when it unveils its new jackets at St Mary’s Church, Cowes, next Saturday, March 14.
The new jackets were funded by a £5,000 grant from the Hampshire and IW Community Foundation and are black and red with gold trim to match the colours on the Cowes town crest.
Andy, who has already composed the band’s signature tune, Royal Osborne, said: “It seemed fitting to write a piece to mark what is a special event in the band’s history.
“Writing a new piece of music for the band is a way of creating a permanent reminder of the event. We will be playing Celebration at our concerts this year and it will then remain in our library to be played on suitable occasions.”
Admission to the concert is free, with a retiring collection in aid of the Earl Mountbat-ten Hospice and IW Kidney Patients’ Association. The show starts at 7.30pm.
The band always welcomes new players. For more information contact Andy Norman on 01983 566826 or 07786 166 304.
