LETTERS From Julian R. Moody, Sandown:
CATCHING up on recent editions of the County Press I was intrigued to read letters regarding the abbreviated version of the Isle of Wight.
For the definitive answer, simply refer to your copy of The Schoolboys’ Pocket Book — edited by Carlton Wallace, published by Evans Brothers Ltd, September 1951.
On pages 81 and 82 it lists I.O.M. for the Isle of Man, and I.W. for ourselves (note the full stops).
I fully agree with Mr Attrill’s letter (CP, 03-08-12) apart from his use of 'Caulkheads’ when, of course, he really meant 'Vectensian’…
