Nurse leader visits town

WEDNESDAY MAY 24.

THE general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing was in Harlow to commemorate International Nursing Week.

Christine Hancock's first port of call was Pear Tree Mead Primary School where pupils performed their assembly based on the life and times of Florence Nightingale.

Miss Hancock then visited Princess Alexandra Hospital's intensive care unit and formally opened the high dependency unit which opened a few weeks ago.

It is the second visit to the hospital in recent years for the busy nursing boss.

This visit followed an invitation from the hospital's director of nursing Mona Walker and the RCN representative Tony Durcan.

Miss Hancock had the opportunity to talk to nursing staff and met community leaders including MP Bill Rammell.

Afterwards, she visited Harlow Sportcentre for a seminar on local health partnerships.
