Athletes with places in next year's London Marathon are being asked to run for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.

The centre diagnoses serious diseases such as cancer.

Its fundraising manager Paul Elgood said: "We are looking for people who have entries or are applying to run in the 1999 London Marathon to come forward and run in aid of the scanner centre.

"The marathon is an excellent fundraising event and we would help support runners in their fundraising efforts to help maximise the amount raised.

"We are looking for people of all standards and abilities, from serious athletes to those hoping to undertake the race in a more fun manner."

The centre relies heavily on donations from the public and local groups to continue to provide some of the most advanced medical scanning in Britain.

To volunteer to run for the centre contact Paul on 01923 844290.
