Blue badges aren’t free

LETTERS

From Mrs M. Castle, Wootton Bridge:

I am incensed with the ignorance of those members of the public (CP, letters 29-08-14) bleating about the blue badge holders and so-called free parking.

For their information the unfortunate among us who need a blue badge, have to pay for them, they do not come free but carry a charge (current 2014) of £10 for this so called 'privilege’. Not only is this charge to be paid but also a thorough grilling has to be endured before one is granted.

Being a recipient for at least ten years (several renewal badges to be paid for) and for the past five years unable to take 'advantage’ of the so-called privilege due to ongoing disabilities, I still pay the said charge so that should the necessity arise I can avail myself of the said privilege.

I trust this letter helps to clear the air as to (honest) blue badge holders and hope that those who find it to be so annoying will never need to even think of making use of such a free facility for themselves or loved ones.
