Build in the West Wight, not Ryde

LETTERS From Mrs Rosemary Beeney, Ryde:

I FEEL Newport and Ryde have had their fair share of new houses, with the new Pan Meadow estate in Newport and the Bullen Village and Oakfield developments at Ryde.

The roads in these two towns are terribly congested while West Wight is virtually unchanged. How about the new village being built somewhere in West Wight.

If the problems of the smell at Prestwood Farm, which caused its closure, had been solved a few years ago, these fields now being planned as Pennyfeather Village would not have arisen.

To rear beef cattle on these 140 acres would not need a slurry pit, which was the cause of the smell, so let’s use this prime land as a farm again and put these 900 houses elsewhere.

• Another letter on this topic in the Friday, February 15, County Press.
