IT was sad news for Sandown, to learn that the Wight City Leisure Complex is to close in November, with 30 members of staff being made redundant.
Wight City has, for many years, been a feature of the town, and a popular venue for both Islanders and visitors.
Having spoken to Mr Peak, the owner, I was pleased to be assured that he intended to work together with the planning department, and to shortly submit another planning application for the Wight City site.
Mr Peak is also the proprietor of Sandown Pier and so it was welcome news to be assured that it will remain open.
Providing visitor facilities is no easy task in the current economic climate, so I thank Mr Peak for continuing to have faith in the future of tourism, so vital to the economy of our Island.
