LETTERS From Kelly Burke, targeted services manager, YMCA IW:
OVER the last month, our charity launched the 'One for One’ campaign to help raise funds on behalf of the YMCA children’s bereavement service.
Our service currently supports hundreds of bereaved children and young people by providing them with opportunities to be listened to, be reassured and receive advice on matters important to them. We also work with child-based professionals within the community to provide them with knowledge and understanding about bereavement while helping professionals develop ways to support children and young people.
We would like to say a huge thank you to County Press readers who have donated via our Just Giving page — http://www.justgiving.com/oneforone — and through various other methods. Thus far, we have reached over one per cent of our £130,000 fun raising target. Funds are enormously required to sustain our bereavement counselling service as initial start-up funding ceases just next year.
So far, Islanders have donated from £1 to £500 and we have received many positive and inspiring messages of gratitude. A number of individuals and families have contacted us to gain fundraising packs while others have sought information about volunteering for the charity. We are really grateful that the community is coming together to help support young lives.
We do have a long way to go in order to reach our target and we trust this can be achieved with the communities continued backing. As we like to say, 'Everyone can help Someone’, so thank you.
