The recent flooding of three pensioners' homes in Borehamwood's Oak Farm was probably caused by a problem sewer, it emerged this week.
Following the flood, in Oak Farm and Arundel Drive on Sunday October 21, Hertsmere Borough Council's drainage services department investigated the site. A council spokesman said: "It appears that the cause of the flood was a Thames Water public sewer.
"The council has written to Thames Water, notifying them of the problem and suggesting they investigate further."
He added: "We would urge people to report cases of flooding, so we can get a global picture of what is going on."
He said flooding caused by Thames Water's public sewer was not the responsibility of the council, and it was up to the water company to sort it out.
