Could volunteer mentor hospice?

LETTERSFrom R. F. Rudge, Calbourne:

How pleasing to see in the advert for a chief executive at our hospice that his or her salary will be circa £70k plus benefits and not the six digit sum which many suspected.

How sad retirees with loads of life and talent are unable to volunteer for such positions.

Maybe that’s all changed now Sir Stuart Rose, an ex-chief executive of M & S has volunteered his services to mentor the NHS.

In my day, you were unable to volunteer for any position which would replace a paid position and that applied to hospital porters unless you were a TV personality.

Dare I suggest the board of governors considers advertising for volunteers for their management posts.

I guess it’s all down to why people work.
