Erith & Belvedere boss Mike Acland's aim for the second half of the season will be to steer his side to their highest-ever league position and win a bit of silverware on the way.

The Deres are seventh in the Dr Martens Eastern Division, with games in hand, and are still in the London Senior cup, where they face Croydon.

Acland hopes they can top their best-ever finish of seventh in the Southern League in 1993. The last trophy Erith won was the Athenian Cup in 1974.

He said: "Everyone is beating everyone and the league is pretty open. The second half of the season will be tough as we are playing the top-six sides.

"But I'm pretty optimistic as I think we can surprise a few teams, and I'd love to beat Croydon and get some silverware for us."

Acland added: "I'm looking for a left-sided player. We've been playing people out of position and need to keep people on their toes. Competition for places is good for everyone."
