Fields out of action

LETTERS From Brian Rushton, Newport:

I AM writing in support of Newport resident Dean Hodges (CP, 31-08-12) about the poor state of Seaclose Park fields, which results from the failure of the council to ensure they are fit after the IW Festival.

Untold numbers of bottle tops, plastic ties and other litter have been left in the mud and covered with a top dressing, which is equally hazardous underfoot to young children and others expecting to enjoy themselves.

Sports England spent an enormous amount of money to make these fields fit for purpose to help people create sporting habits for life and not for a promotion company like Solo to make a profit.

Apparently no one is allowed to hold any type of event on these fields from May 1 each year until after the IW Festival has finished.

These fields are never fully restored to the condition in which they were before the event until the autumn, depriving our community full use throughout the summer.

If you multiply these months by the years the festival has been held, you can assess the time (years) we have been deprived.
