ENJOY a return visit to Great Missenden by The Chiltern Youth Chamber Orchestra next Saturday, February 9. Directed by Peter Hanson, these musicians represent the finest string players from the Chiltern area. Their concert begins at 7.30pm in the Parish Church. Wine will be served from 6.30pm and tickets are £8 for adults and £4 for children. Box office numbers are 01494 862767 and 01494 727721.

CONGRATULATIONS should be recorded in this column to the local folk who make up the Frieth Natural History Society. They are winners of the Chilterns Conservation Award for their hard work in restoring an abandoned chalk pit close to the village.

With upwards of fifty enthusiasts involved, they restored the chalk grassland so well that some rare plants including orchids have been spotted together with 17 species of butterfly. If you have a similar claim to a project that assists the restoration of the wildlife value of a treasured locality then why not try for the 2002/3 award by calling Simon Fisher at the Chilterns Conservation Board on 01844 271302.

COULD your children be more talented than you think? Tryad Performing Arts at Great Missenden Combined School teaches acting, miming, singing and spoken voice work as well as body movement and dance. Their classes are on Tuesdays from 5.30pm until 7pm. For more details, call Roger on 01494 772944.

LEAVES on the line might well be over for another year as far as Great Missenden train travellers are concerned, but they are still very much a matter of concern at the County museum. They are currently hosting a major exhibition called Leaves on the Line that deals with an exploration of railways, architecture and the wildlife of metroland. Entry to the Museum is free so for more information call 01296 331441.

GREAT Missenden Parish Council meets next on February 11at 8pm in the Memorial Centre. Local residents are most welcome to attend.
