LETTERS From Nigel Smith, East Cowes:
I’M sick and tired of reading letters slating the new PFI contractors.
These people have inherited roads that have been neglected by the council for many years. Most roads on the Island are glorified horse trails and are in a shoddy state, to say the least.
Along comes Island Roads, which started in April this year but so far has come under so much flak, right from the word go.
Let’s at least give it a chance to rectify years of chaos, please. There has been precious little praise for the professional service it has done so far.
How many people have contacted it and not received an above satisfactory response to their problem?
Dog bins and rubbish bins emptied in record time, pot holes filled swiftly and cleaning up after the dustbin men who have scattered rubbish everywhere and not cleaned up.
If you notice, it’s Island Roads men who come and do that. Give them a break and let’s see what it’s like one year on.
• More letters on this topic in the Friday, August 23, County Press.
