I AM carrying out research for a book about the Romanovs’ visit to the IW in 1909.
I have cuttings from the County Press, memoirs, the diaries of the 6th Earl Spencer and an appointment to see papers in the Royal Archives.
But I wondered if it might be possible to appeal for anyone who had relations with relevant memories, or who has papers or photographs to contact me.
The Imperial Family spent most of their time on their yacht, the Standard, but they did go around Osborne House and some of the children went shopping and bought postcards.
There were worries at the time about left wing elements, so security was unprecedentedly tight.
I’d be so grateful for any help. I have written three books about the Romanovs: The Romanovs and Mr Gibbes, A Romanov Fantasy and The Russian Court At Sea, all published by Short Books in London. A Romanov Fantasy was also published in New York by W. W. Norton.
