Is it too late to save this very special shop?

LETTERS From Mrs Audrey Smith, Rookley:

WE have lost a number of shops in Newport recently, but I have been very sad to hear Castlebooks will be closing in March.

This is a very special shop, which I have used frequently. There is a wide range of Christian books, including lovely children’s books as well as teaching materials for adults and children and Bible reading notes for individuals. There are Bibles of various translations, hymn and Christian song books, also CDs and DVDs. Greetings cards for every occasion and many gift items are also on sale.

The churches have been warned about the possible closure and we have been asked to "use it or lose it". In the CP Village Talk columns there are more than 100 churches listed. Is it really too late to save this special shop? Would the churches be prepared to subsidise it?

The shop is special because there is always a warm welcome from the staff, who are there to give advice and lend a listening ear. They also know many of their customers by name.

No other shop in Newport will replace this.
