Learning That Works aims to help school leavers become more employable. At the moment, 21 per cent of people leaving Battersea Technology College are jobless The scheme will include an expansion of the Summer College Scheme and other work-related learning programmes.

A Learning Community will promote life-long learning. Its projects include an expansion of the mentoring and study centre schemes and new parents' learning groups.

Literacy for All will run a summer literacy school and community literacy programme and expand the Literacy Centre.

Staying on Track will target young people likely to get sucked into crime. It will encourage attendance at school and aims to reduce exclusions. A Battersea Young Citizens Programme will be set up.

Finally, Employment Support for Young Offenders will provide careers advice.

The five schemes will be funded at a cost of £400,000 by the Single Regeneration Budget - Government cash for Wandsworth Council - managed by the Wandsworth Challenge Partnership.
