Ridgehill residents are enjoying their new communal garden at Milby and Lamberton Courts in Borehamwood.

The environmental improvements were to have been funded by single regeneration budget (SRB) money, but residents were keen to start work and started fundraising themselves.

They held a summer fete and applied for sponsorship and grant funding from organisations such as Barclays SiteSavers.

"In total, they raised about £26,000 to fund the transformation of the garden.

"It was a marvellous effort on the part of the resident's association because none of them had ever done anything like this before," said John Lefever, Ridghill's tenant liaison manager.
