TWO young boxers from Thamesmead have been selected to represent England in international matches next month.

Ryan Barrett, 15, is due to fight in the 50kg category and 14-year-old Nathan Weise will compete at 42kg level in an England schoolboys international against Scotland early in November.

Both lads train at Eltham and District Boxing Club under the eye of Ryan's father, Steve, who is the senior trainer.

And at the end of the month, Nathan and Ryan are lined up to take on a team from Ireland. Provided Scotland and Ireland can field boxers in the same age/weight category, the lads are guaranteed two England appearances.

Ryan received considerable acclaim when he represented England against South Africa earlier this year and was voted `best boxer on tour' by officials. Nathan has reached the national semi-final on two occasions but this is his first time representing England.

Senior trainer at the Eltham club is Ryan's father Steve. "To have two boys in consideration for the England team is marvellous," he said.

The club needs sponsors. Please call Steve on 0181 473 0655.
