Majority supported plan for Asda store

Friday, January 20, 2012

LETTERSFrom Oliver Jones, property communications manager, Asda:

ASDA’s planning application for a new store on the St George’s Way site, Newport, is likely to be submitted in the next few months.

From all of the local work we have done, it is clear that there is significant public demand for the proposed store, which will be our first on the Island.

Around 500 members of the public attended our well-publicised two-day exhibition in September 2011, the vast majority of whom supported our plans.

This was confirmed by the 206 out of 226 formal feedback cards left at the exhibition or sent in to us that answered yes to the question: Do you support Asda’s plans for a new store in Newport?.

We have also had many residents contact us directly or through our website www.asdanewportiow.co.uk to register their support for the store.

We have made some minor changes to our plans since the exhibition and intend to exhibit them on the Island for further comment in due course.
