Darren Currie, 23-year-old nephew of former England star Tony Currie, is training with Barnet.

Midfielder Currie figured prominently in Shrewsbury's 2-0 home league win over Barnet in October, providing the pass for Lee Steele to score a spectacular opening goal and hitting the second.

But he lost his place in the Gay Meadow line-up, and went on loan to Plymouth Argyle before the transfer deadline in March. Manager Mick Jones was set to sign him, but was sacked before he could complete a deal.

The previous year, Currie looked set to join First Division Stoke City, but after a six-figure fee was agreed, Potters boss Lou Macari pulled out of the deal.

Also on trial with Barnet are midfielder Dominic Ludden, released by Watford, and youngsters Graeme Power and Neil Finn.

But Lee Howarth, the Bees' skipper last season, appears to have played his last game for the club, after becoming a free agent under the Bosman ruling..

"I don't expect Lee to be with us by the start of the season," said chairman Tony Kleanthous.
