LETTERSFrom Christina Ginsburg, (acting) service co-ordinator, The Mountbatten Nursing Service:
I WAS interested to read Mary T. Bell’s letter (CP, 26-02-10) "Taking on the Mantle of Marie Curie". This excellent service has been in existence on the Island since the 1970s and has been an extraordinary success.
With local fundraisers past and present, the Marie Curie team has provided the Island with a wonderful service supporting patients and families in their homes. Like Mary, I, too, am a former Marie Curie nurse and now find myself excited at being part of the dynamic team responsible for setting up the hospice’s new Mountbatten Nursing Service.
The new service will incorporate the existing Marie Curie Nurses and be jointly funded by NHS IW and The Earl Mountbatten Hospice, together with the Macmillan Nursing team and Hospice at Home team offering seamless delivery of care for our community.
The Mountbatten Nursing Service will expand and develop to provide practical nursing and emotional support to patients and families in their preferred place of care and all future funds raised will remain on the Island for the benefit of both patients and their families.
