Leyton Pennant 0

Barton Rovers 3

(Ryman League

division one)

LEYTON PENNANT slumped to their 25th defeat of the season against Barton Rovers to fall to the bottom of the Ryman League division one table in their last home match of the season.

Missing the injured Jason Geraghty, Pennant manager Martin Busson brought back Cyril Baffour and Jamie Schaedel and dropped Joel Sapiro but not even the change of line-up brought back the team spirit that has been sadly lacking recently.

For the opening five minutes the Lilywhites looked as if they were not going down without a fight. It seemed that the realisation of relegation had lifted a weight from their shoulders and they played some of the slickest football seen in recent weeks at the Lodge.

Visiting keeper Gillam was called on to make two brilliant saves in the first ten minutes but from then on it was Barton who took command.

The Lilywhites were still menacing on the counter attack with Brotherton, Chick and Baffour all causing problems but when they went forward they left gaps at the back.

After 23 minutes Gordon Guile opened the scoring for Barton and moments later he slotted home a second from the spot after Darren Woodhurst was adjudged to have brought down Lewis.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first with Barton dominating and Leyton Pennant looking to score on the break.

Barton sewed up the game on seventy minutes when Neil Yates was given a second chance after Knox had saved his first attempt.

PENNANT: C.Knox, Brotherton, Hercules, Woodhurst, Bass, Baffour, Notley, Tilley, Cole, Chick and Schaedel. Subs D.Knox, Harley and Sapiro.
