LETTERS From Steve Reading, Newport:
I READ with horror your article "IW tourism body launched" (CP, 16-11-12).
While it is laudable our 'leaders’ at County Hall have finally recognised the need to specifically focus on tourism and provide some much-needed investment I was, nevertheless, shocked and saddened to see that VIOW is the acronym chosen for Visit Isle of Wight.
This will undoubtedly confuse and puzzle would-be visitors. Would they be visiting IOW or IW?
Surely the issue had been laid to rest in these very letters pages and to resurrect such confusion is bound to cause ill feeling across our diamond isle again.
Perhaps a local referendum to decide would be in order.
I’m sure the turnout (and interest) would be higher than the 14.3 per cent of Islanders who voted in the PCC elections. Or am I being pedantic?
