Real-world view of visitors’ needs

Friday, December 7, 2012 - 11:11

LETTERS From Diane Etherton, Sandown:
WHAT is David Pugh on about, saying heavy-handed criticism of Wightlink could put tourists off and send a message out that the Island is an expensive and difficult place to get to? (CP, 30-11-12)
Is he not leader of the council that has closed public toilets and tourist information centres, withdrawn funding for the paddling pool at Ventnor and increased parking charges?
Surely these are of concern to would-be visitors to the Island?
They will only have to try to get ferry tickets to find out it is expensive and, at times, difficult to get to.
Is is not time this council got into the real world, where the Island is largely dependent on tourism, the very thing it has damaged with its policies?
• More letters on this topic in the Friday, December 7, County Press.
