A lone woman sits in quiet reflection at a Harrow church on the anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

St John's Church in Station Road opened its doors to the public for longer than normal on Monday for those who wanted to pray or lay flowers to remember the tragedy. But few people turned up.

"About 10 or 11 people seemed to be there specifically for remembrance," the vicar Father John Spinks said.

"It shows there wasn't a great need for it. We weren't sure, but there seems to be no need for us to do it again."

This scene is very different from last year when people flocked to a special service held at the church on the morning of Diana's funeral.

"It was heaving then," said Father Spinks.
