Road system not working

Friday, August 20, 2010

LETTERSFrom R. Jolliffe, Newport:

I WAS upset to read (CP, 31-07-10) that Cllr Edward Giles said the one-way arrangement in Whitepit Lane had proved effective!

How does he know? Where is the evidence? As far as I can see, it is totally ineffective. Has he seen how fast the traffic is now going down Whitepit Lane? Has he monitored how many cars are still going up Whitepit Lane?

Has he monitored the traffic going up Nelson Road where children are playing? Has he tried to cross the road at the top of Cedar Hill where there are two older people’s complexes? The traffic was always bad but now it is even worse and without pavement or lights and traffic coming three ways!

I thought the council was making cutbacks — only with the vulnerable, it seems.

The speed bumps were put down and lights put in to control the traffic. Now the speed bumps have been taken up, the lights turned off and Whitepit Lane made one way.

Someone needs to be consulting the people as we are the taxpayers and we live in Whitepit Lane. Surely, we have a say in these matters?
