Apparently, the Cowes to Newport cycle route is to be closed for three months while drainage is connected to the Vestas development at Stag Lane.
Diversions have been set up involving the use of the main road. (CP, 26-3-10)
Not very green is it? Stronger cyclists may be merely inconvenienced — but what about the large number of families who regularly use this route?
It is hard to imagine the Cowes to Newport road being closed for three months — community pressure would simply not allow it — so how can a very well-used cycle route be?
We’re guessing those making this decision don’t use this route and didn’t press the contractor to minimize disruption.
This is a really poor show for an "Eco-Island".
