A NEW state-of-the-art library and arts centre intended for Enfield Town is to go ahead.
The future of the new £6 million flagship library complex was in doubt after a row over finance.
But now it is set to be built on the site of the London Road car park, instead of on the former CO-OP building 100 yards away as first planned.
The new library will be a 4,000 square metre structure on one floor instead of the four-storey building originally proposed.
The expected completion date is September 2003 ? two years later than first planned.
It will still form the focal point of a huge £45 million town centre regeneration scheme.
The library will include a museum, 150-seat studio and theatre space, information technology area and homework centre.
